Yas Nights: Volume 1 Prologue
I could feel the cold air piercing my back, like needles puncturing through my skin.
The night begins everything is shrouded in darkness. The clouds parted revealing the sight of a beautiful full moon.
“What a wonderful night....”
I stood up with what little strength I had, my body covered with bruises and cuts. At the time when things became peaceful once more there was a sound of silence that filled the area. I look up and see the stars glistening as I try enjoy the tranquility offered to my by the forest.
Only seeing what little light that shines through the trees from above my voice escapes from my mouth, “I shouldn’t be here…”
There is a time when a man should sacrifice his life for various reasons. I was to spend my holiday with my family after I turned six years old. I didn’t expect to lose everything that day.
I continue to stand fighting off what the cold brought… after all it was Christmas Eve.
“What should I do now?”
My clothes were stained with red that also stained the pure white snow which blanketed the forest. Sirens could be heard from a distant as the temperature began to drop below freezing.
I could feel the life draining from my veins.
“Am I going to die?”
My body grows weaker with ever passing second, but I don’t let this bother me because I still had more questions to ask.
“Now what do you have to say for yourself?”
There lay before me a body of a man who looked like he was in his late 20’s. Dressed like an average business man his body was filled with bullet wounds.
“I have regrets to what has already happened…” Forcing his own death he continued to speak.
Clinging onto what remaining life he had to finally speak to me face to face. Speaking would only make the blood gush out of his mouth exhaling what little life he had.
“Why… why are you still alive?” Kei said to the dying body with still existing wounds.
Clenching onto a knife I prepared to end his remaining life with my own hands. I looked to where my family lay, scattered lifeless bodies filled the forest behind my house.
“Kei Shiiro… you will die one day, I’ll make sure of it.” His words began to fade.
He spoke of how time was nothing when it came to achieving his goal… regardless of how much time we both had. How could he, this man who attacked me was dying in front of me.
My blood level had gone down too far from the cold and the blood loss. “There will be more from the lights… they will seek you.”
Those were his last words as he finally became a lifeless corpse.
Finally collapsed from the loss of blood and falling in the pool of blood… I was unable to avenge my family, awaiting the death slowly creeping up I turn my body over. My consciousness begins to fade as the sound of sirens advanced in on my location.
In my last moments my body began too rise from the snow covered ground. I remember seeing a black silhouette figure carry me from the dark and white forest. We had left the scene of the crime… I had left the bodies of my family behind as well.
Looking up at the person who carried me in their arms I raise my right hand and place it upon their left cheek.
“W-who?” With very little strength I was able to mutter one word before my vision slowly became hazy.
At the age of six on the Eve of Christmas was the day I became a assa.
