Chapter 3- Sora’s Innocence
“Sora you IDIOT!” Reenie’s voice echoed from the rooftop.
Hearing her footsteps go inside the building I sighed in relief, “I caught a lucky break there, guess I’m lucky during times like these.”
However… I was not out of danger yet, when Reenie was taking her anger out on other students I made my move.
The fire escape was located on the other side of the school, to avoid being caught I started crawling slowly to the other end. A gust of wind picked up making it a challenge for me, it had taken me about five minutes to make it to my destination.
Getting ready to jump onto the fire escape stairs I could still hear Reenie talking the other student’s ears off. I could hear Mai’s voice coming from the stairs as I made my escape.
Finally making it to the ground I looked back up to see if I was spotted, “Man, the Student Council Prez is a pain.”
“Oh yeah…”
Looking to where I had parked my bike made me think of something. I unlocked the saddle bag looking for the object at hand.
“Guess I’ll lay low for a bit.”
Back at the rooftop Reenie had just cornered both Minami and Mai into a corner.
“You were saying… Minami Ihara?” Reenie still kept her focus on the two girls.
Mai kept still holding onto Minami’s t-shirt. The two girls looked at each other and then back.
“Nothing to say?” Reenie started to intimidate the two.
“So… this is how the Student Body President acts.” Minami stepped forward defending herself, “Stopping students from making friends and enjoying school life?”
“Tsk…”
Reenie clicked her tongue and stepped back.
At the moment a roar from a motorcycle could be heard coming from the school courtyard. Turning her attention toward to the sound, Reenie ran to the edge of the roof that overlooked the courtyard.
“He’s leaving the school… that idiot.” Reenie spoke out loud firmly grasping onto the fence.
“You two stay where you are… I’m not done with you.”
Passing by Minami and Mai she headed ran down the stairs, ignoring the school rules. While running down to the second floor she bumped into a student who had green hair.
“Excuse me…” the male student said in a low voice.
“Watch where you’re going… also I might add that colored hair is against the school rules.”
Ignoring bumping into a random student she continued outside determined to go after the motorcycle.
“Well miss Student Body President don’t you seem eager to catch a ghost.” The green haired student said looking to where Reenie had taken off.
When Reenie arrived to the courtyard to only thing that she could hear was the motorcycle’s roar fading in the distant.
“I’m not giving up that easily…”
Running to the bike racks located by the front entrance Reenie unlocked her bike, still determined as ever to chase after Sora. This action wouldn’t look good on her record as Student Council President.
“I don’t care if I get into trouble… I you won’t get away from me today Sora Sendo!” following the sound of the motorcycle’s engine roar she pursued by bicycle.
Back at the rooftop entrance the two female students still waited for the Student Body President to return.
“So… how long do we stay here Minami?” Mai looked at Minami who had been sitting on the steps.
Looking at her wristwatch Minami sighed.
“Judging by the time I guess we really can’t wait around for her.”
The bell rang signaling that lunch was over and fourth period was about to start and the girls headed back to their class on the second floor.
“1:32 pm”
After continuing the chase for an hour and half Reenie decided it was time to give up and make her way back to school.
Upon returning to school she was greeted by several teachers from the faculty, one most important her current teacher Miss Brengle. A couple of members from the student council joined the group of teachers waiting for Reenie.
“Miss Konno, what is the meaning of this? A student leaving while classes were still in session you should be ashamed of your actions.”
The mathematics teacher Miss Brengle said to Reenie who’d kept her head down the whole time.
Reenie had become the center of attention as students with classes facing the courtyard watched on. Still on her bicycle Reenie clenched onto the handle bars before getting off. Looking at the crowd gathered before her and Reenie changed her expression.
Putting on a serious face Reenie spoke, “I am sorry for the trouble I have caused… but I have reason to believe a student left campus and I was merely chasing said student down.”
Clenching her fist again Reenie continued.
“This student already has a bad reputation and I want to make him a well rounded student.”
The faculty started to mumble to one another before finally coming to an agreement. This didn’t please Miss Brengle who still kept her face scrunched with anger.
“Okay, we accept your answer… but might I add that you should always remain the role model of the school as Student Council President.” Miss Brengle spoke in her shrill voice.
Reenie bowed her head before the staff and student council members.
“Once more I would like to apologies for causing a disturbance.”
“Now, I want you to finish up your duties as Student Body President… there are forms for you to fill out for this years Student festival, make no mistakes.”
Miss Brengle was unaffected by Reenie’s apology and simply gave her an immediate order. Being dismissed so easy from the faculty did not add to
her reputation. Knowing there were going to be rumors spreading around Reenie simply did as she was told and headed to the Student Council
room.
It was 5:01 pm and classes finally ended for the day as the students began their afterschool life. It seems like most of the students didn’t care about what had happened.
“Where could he have gone… that Sora.” Reenie said nearly finishing her Student Council duties.
Reenie’s mind was filled with Sora. Having one more task to take care Reenie passed her class and looked at the closed door.
“He couldn’t be here, right?
Stopping at the front of the door she hesitated before entering.
“After all, he ditched school just so he could avoid talking to me.”
Opening the door slowly Reenie looked inside and to her surprise spotted Sora at his desk doing homework.
“Sora? He really is here… I thought he skipped out on the rest of the class.”
Reenie kept herself hidden behind the partially opened door.“I can’t confront him right now, I have to get more information on how he got back into the school.”
She spent at least thirty minutes talking to her classmates Reenie was able to gather information about Sora’s whereabouts from when lunch ended. Every student she interviewed had the same story, Sora arrived to class before the bell rang and did the usual ignoring everyone and doing school work.
“It can’t be…”
Reenie looked at her black handbook now filled with answers she wasn’t looking for. Something was wrong with this picture, Reenie could’ve sworn Sora had left the school grounds on his motorcycle. Not anticipating this dilemma Reenie decided to ask Sora directly.
Upon returning to class Reenie was becoming more hesitant about her decision.
“What if I am the reason Sora isn’t making any friends?”Reenie kept a hand on the door deep in thought about her decision. “Would it be all too bad if I just left him alone and never bothered him?”
Other students began to pass by, whispering and laughing at Reenie behind her back. Just as Reenie made her final decision Sora opened the door.
“S-sora!?”
Reenie’s voice cracked trying to regain her composure.
“…Reenie…”
Sora looked at her in for a moment before opening his mouth, “You’re in the way.”
Pushing Reenie lightly with his shoulder Sora walked down the hall.
“Sora Sendo!”
Reenie’s voice echoed throughout the hallway startling the remaining students still around. Sora however didn’t react one bit, he continued to walk away from her not even glancing back once.
Fueling her anger again Reenie approached Sora.
“Sora Sendo… please explain to me what is going on.”
Reenie was still unsure of what was happening as she waited for Sora’s response.
“Sigh”
“I’m waiting for your answer…”
The light pause didn’t change her decision to ask him again before being interrupted by another student.
“Excuse me Student Council President… I have some important things to discuss with you regarding next months’ Student Festival events.”
“Ah okay… can you hold on for a minute.”
Reenie turned to Sora who had finally halted, turning around a dark expression was across his face.
“I have no idea what you mean… I’m going now.”
Walking down the stairs to the front entrance of the school Sora approached his motorcycle, still parked where he had left it.
“It’s better this way, why make friends when they are just going to hate me for what I really am.” Sora spoke out loud placing stuff into the saddlebag.
Sitting on the motorcycle he started up the engine before putting on his helmet. Just then Reenie hopped onto the back of Sora’s bike clinging onto his waist.
“…what are you?”
“I won’t leave from this bike until you answer my question”
“…I went back to class after you lectured me… now get off I have to go now.”
Ignoring his order Sora knew Reenie wasn’t about to let go anytime soon, he lifted the kickstand and rode off the school campus with Reenie sitting in the back.
“Don’t blame me when you start regretting this.” Sora mumbled as they made it onto the main roads.
With school ending like this it seemed like the rest of my life may become interesting.
But…
Will everyone really accept me for who I am, will they finally let go of the fact that I am the son of two scientists. After all, in this world right now my actions are considered blight against the people of Chin Lee.
Thinking only of this I rode on with Reenie still holding onto my back.
